March 1, 2011– Columbia, MD – Costello Construction is pleased to announce it has been selected by the City of Rockville to build the new Rockville Police Station located at 2 West Montgomery Avenue. The $6.5m project, designed by Wheeler Goodman Masek Architects, will include the renovation/historic restoration of the existing, former United States Post Office building and the construction of a new 14,500 square foot, three-story “Annex” building on the same site. As a significant historic structure, the facade of the existing building will be meticulously restored and the interior of the Post Office will be completely renovated, including a full restoration of the historic lobby and vestibule. The architecture of the new Annex compliments the existing Post Office building in scale and theme, while contemporary materials clearly differentiate it from the historic building. The project, which will house the City of Rockville’s growing police force, is scheduled for completion in March 2012.
