Costello Construction Named Metro DC Best of 2011 with Silver Spring Civic Building

October, 2011 – Columbia, MD – The Silver Spring Civic Building at Veterans Plaza has once again claimed top honors, receiving the Associated General Contractors of Metro DC Best of 2011 – Washington Contractor Award for New Construction under $75 million.

The Costello Construction project was featured in the December 2011 issue of Washington Contractor.

Celebrating some of the region’s most state-of-the-art projects that used cutting-edge technology, the AGC of DC hosted the 11^th annual celebration on Oct. 10, 2011.

The Silver Spring Civic Building at Veteran’s Plaza features several innovative materials and systems, including an exposed long-span steel structure glass pavilion, an ice skating rink that includes a remote chiller to freeze the rink slab for skating, an elaborate audio-visual system in the Great Hall, IPE wood sidings, a complete building automation system that allows for remote viewing and control of all HVAC systems in the building, and a fiber component panel rain screen veneer.
