A sophisticated project that included a 2,000 cubic yard, cast-in-place concrete rotunda, composed of granite and architecturally exposed concrete. Costello Construction self-performed the concrete work, caulking almost 2 miles of joints in the plywood formwork to ensure the quality of concrete finish. The West Wing addition was uniquely complicated.

The project included the addition of an ice harvesting system for cooling the entire facility. The distribution for the ice harvesting system, in turn, ran underneath the West Addition via a system of cast-in-place concrete tunnels. In addition, the project included the highest level of finishes on walls, ceilings, and floors, including granite pavers throughout the majority of the main level.

The exterior of the project consisted of metal wall panels mounted to a light gauge famed substrate. The structure was a combination of structural steel and concrete. Costello Construction completed all site work, concrete work, and carpentry with its own forces. This museum addition posed challenges for two reasons; connection to the existing structure and site restrictions based on the urban location.
